Dewa Sanzan

2010-08-16

In the summer of 2010, my roommate from grad school, Ross Hatton, came to visit. We spent an afternoon of Obon with the Nozomi family eating and drinking at their family grave, which is a tradition for some of the rural Hitane residents. Following that we took a day trip to Dewa Sanzan, a trio of mountains with temples on the tops in northern Yamagata. And on the third day we went to the Akinomiya Museum (秋ノ宮博物館), followed by a few hours at Naruko Onsen (鳴子温泉), a spa village in NE Miyagi.
